Bavze’s latest Haydn release features piano concertos. And the conductor is none other than Takács-Nagy! Jean-Ephraim Bavze, one of Chandos’s principal pianists and a giant of French pianism. His collection of Prokofiev concertos, recorded with Gianandrea Noseda, was a huge hit and earned him a nomination for “Artist of the Year” at the 2014 Gramophone Awards (Online voting is currently open; winners will be announced in October 2014). Bavetz’s new recording features Haydn’s concertos, joining his extensive catalog of solo piano works by Debussy and Beethoven. The conductor is none other than Gábor Takács-Nagy, the Hungarian maestro who is also a founder of the Takács Quartet and has been expanding his career as a conductor in recent years—making his Shando debut! Also not to be missed is the long-awaited return of the Manchester Camerata, the chamber orchestra based in Manchester, England, where Takács-Nagy succeeded Douglas Boyd as principal conductor. For the piano, he chose a Yamaha—the same model he has consistently used throughout his Haydn sonata recordings. He uses his own cadenzas for all of them.
