Here comes the first Handel album featuring two of German Baroque music's greatest virtuosos, Hille Pahl and Dorothee Meals, working together for the first time. The album is a diverse composition of two dramatic "Italian cantatas" with many emotional changes and three cantatas, including "Never Change Your Mind," the only one of Handel's cantatas with lyrics in Spanish, as well as arias and chamber music, and discloses Handel's charm. Dorothee Meals is a soprano of German and Ukrainian parentage, whose repertoire includes Baroque music of the 17th and 18th centuries, and whose charming voice and emotional roles have won her great popularity with audiences and critics alike. Her excellent technique and clear, articulate voice are ideal for these works. Here, too, her voice is beautifully soft and non-vibrato, and she sings many of Handel's arias with great expression. The La Follia Baroque Orchestra, led by viola da gamba virtuoso Hille Pahl, "the maiden of German Baroque music," is a dense and dynamic ensemble that captures the essence of Handel's music.
