AION" is pronounced "aeon" in Greek, but here it is pronounced "aion" according to its pronunciation. Commissioned work for Ensemble Modern AION" was commissioned by the Ensemble Modern, a group of contemporary music specialists, and was ordered as a work for artificial intelligence and ensemble. However, at the time of 2018, there was still no artificial intelligence software available that could meet Motzmann's objectives, so with the help of Thomas Hummel, a computer scientist and composer at the SWR experimental studio, we are working on developing an artificial intelligence that can handle live performances. Custom-made Artificial Intelligence Software Motschmann first converted all of his own past works into data to be loaded into the software, which gradually machine-learns his compositional techniques into algorithms. In other words, the "AION" software is a custom-made artificial intelligence dedicated to Motschmann. Steinway Automated Piano The actual performance requires simultaneous real-time responses to the performers, so the processing must be done with millisecond precision to the musical notes.Then, using machine learning algorithms, the system is able to instantly hear and respond to minuscule changes in the co-stars in the necessary situations, and the musical information generated is played on Steinway's Spirio | r high-resolution automatic piano. Use of Artificial Intelligence Software The role of artificial intelligence here is not limited to controlling the automatic piano; the artificial intelligence provides the material for the majority of five of the seven movements, and Motschmann orchestrates and otherwise brings them together.
