The album includes two commissions, "Home" by Kevin Patz (1972-) and "Microfiction Volume 1" by Caroline Shaw (1982-). This is a new work born of the Corona disaster. Also included are the second movement from String Quartet No. 1 by George Walker (1922-2018), String Quartet in B minor, Op. 11 by Samuel Barber (1910-1981), and "Over the Rainbow (Over the Rainbow)" by Harold Arlen (1905-1986).20 The program traces the works of American composers from the 20th century to the present day. The Miro Quartet was formed in 1995 by four students at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In April of the following year, the quartet won first prize at the 50th Coleman Chamber Music Competition, as well as first prize and the grand prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. After the departure of founding member Tomoko Sandy Yamamoto, William Fedkenheuer joined the group and has remained with it ever since.
