In his last years, Jochum was even deified, but the complete collection is now available with performances from the 1939s to the 1950s during the SP era. The music of Furtwängler strongly influenced Jochum, but Jochum also had the passion of Mengelberg's temper tantrums more than Furtwängler, and the torrent of passion in No. 3 with the Hamburg Philharmonic, especially with the young master, is tremendous. The Jochum style, with its conscious use of trumpet forces, can still be heard here and there, and No. 4 is an intense and masterful performance.
