Thielemann, who succeeded Barenboim as conductor, performs "The Ring" in its entirety. Now on Blu-ray BOX! In the 2022/2011 season, the Berlin State Opera celebrated the 30th anniversary of Daniel Barenboim's appointment as Music Director, and to mark the occasion, a new production of "The Ring of the Nibelung" by Dimitri Cherniakov was staged. Christian Thielemann conducted three of the four performances, and Thomas Gugais conducted the remaining one. Thielemann succeeded Barenboim as music director in September 2024. Now, the "C major" label will release the four parts of "The Ring" conducted by Thielemann as a Blu-ray box set. The setting is the top-secret research facility "ESCHE" (German for "world tree ash tree"), of which Wotan is the director. Gods are depicted as researchers, humans and giants as experimental subjects, and the story revolves around the glass-walled laboratory. Chernyakov reconstructed this complex work with a biting irony toward contemporary society. Gold of the Rhine The Gold of the Rhine, the opening night of "The Ring," tells the story of how the gold at the bottom of the Rhine River was stolen by Alberich and turned into a cursed ring. In Chernyakov's staging, a plan of the laboratory is projected onto the stage, superimposing the relationship between the gods and their subjects on the modern system.Michael Folle as Wotan has an overwhelming presence, and Thielemann's conducting makes the music sound magnificent and precise. The Valkyrie The first night of "Die Walkure" depicts the tragic love of Wotan's twin children and the exile of his daughter Brünnhilde. The story unfolds under the watchful eye of the institute, with the Valkyries as employees, Siegmund as a fugitive, and Hunding as a policeman. Anja Kampe as Brünnhilde brings depth to the role with her beautiful and powerful voice. Siegfried" The second night, "Siegfried," depicts the growth and adventures of the hero Siegfried. The four-and-a-half-hour long performance by the eight characters will test the singers' true worth. The role of Siegfried was played by Andreas Schager, one of the finest Helden tenors of our time. He maintains his stamina until the end, and his duet with Brunnhilde, played by Campe, is also a highlight. Götterdämmerung In the final evening, "Götterdämmerung," Siegfried's death and Brünnhilde's decision lead to the demise of the gods. 4.5 hours of epic musical theater marks a turning point in Wagner's world and the dawn of a new era.
