Description:

Karl Weigl(1881-1949):. Included in the program. Meeting for mezzo-soprano and string sextet, Op.16/ String Sextet in D minor (world premiere recording) String Quartet No.6 in C major Performed by Ensemble Mark Rothko Carlo Lazzari (violin), Jada Visentin (violin), Benjamin Bernstein, viola, Kiara Follett (viola), Marianna Sinagra (cello), Carlo Teodoro, cello] Albanu Carrer (mezzo-soprano) This is the second volume of the string quartet cycle by Austrian late-Romantic composer Carl Weigl, including the world premiere recording. Weigl, who came from an upper-class family, received his composition training from Zemlinsky and studied composition at the Vienna Conservatory under Robert Fuchs. Weigl was also a close friend of Schoenberg, and he inherited Mahler's style of composition and kept the Romantic style throughout his life. Ensemble Mark Rothko was formed in 2011 by a group of outstanding string players from northeastern Italy, whose members share a variety of professional experiences in chamber music, solo, orchestral, and teaching, spreading an extraordinary repertoire that is rarely heard by audiences. Carlo Lazzari, Benjamin Bernstein, and Marianna Sinagra studied with the Italian String Quartet and the Trieste Trio, and have performed internationally as well as recorded on several major labels. They have been principal players in major Italian orchestras (La Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Arena di Verona, Trieste Verdi Opera, and Orchestre Philharmonique Arturo Toscanini) and soloists abroad with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orquesta Provincial de São Paulo. He has been a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfonica di São Paulo, among others. He is also active in teaching younger musicians at various conservatories in Italy.
