Previously unreleased live recordings! The sixth in the "In Concert" series! Johnny Hodges, a key member of the Ellington Orchestra, plays the alto saxophone on this 20-track, 70+ minute, world premiere, previously unreleased recording. Johnny Hodges was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1907. Known for his pure tone and distinctive style, he left an immeasurable inspiration for future generations. A core member of the Ellington band, except for a period in the 50's when he led his own band, he was a member of Ray Nance (tp, violin, vocal), Lawrence Brown (tb), Harry Carney (bars), Al Williams (p), Aaron Bell (b), Sam Wood Yard (dr), and gave a concert tour of Europe in the spring of 1961. This album contains recordings from the Copenhagen concert during that tour, the existence of which has been rumored by fans for many years, and now, for the first time, it is being made available in physical form.The album opens with "C JAM BLUES" and includes many of Ellington's works such as "SOPHISTICATED LADY" and "SATIN DOLL" as well as jazz standards such as "SATIN DOLL" and "TAKE THE A TRAIN".
