Oslo Kammerakademie's New Work is a Collection of Four Pieces Leading to "Silk Road"! The Oslo Kammerakademie, a Norwegian wind and percussion ensemble, presents a new collection of four works leading to "The Silk Road". Two 19th century composers fascinated by the music of North Africa and the Middle East, Saint-Saëns' "East and West," written for a military band, and André Capre's three "Persian Suites," two 20th century pieces commissioned by the Oslo Kammerakademie, one of which is a piece for a percussion ensemble, the "Silk Road," and the other a piece for a percussion ensemble. Turkish composer Mert Karabey's "The Last Days of Sultan Selim III" is based on the sultan who modernized the Ottoman Empire. Norwegian composer Gisle Kverndok's Silk Road, a suite in ten movements inspired by the music that merchants supposedly encountered on the trade route between Venice and China. Saint-Saëns' work will be performed in an arrangement by Tron Olaf Larsen, bassoonist at the Kammerakademie in Oslo. Tokyo M-Plus
