Rachel Byman 2021 new female SSW, one of the hottest names in the contemporary Americana scene, released her debut album "SHAME" in 2017. Featured on National Public Radio's (NPR) popular "Song We Love" segment, as well as acclaimed on folk radio station Folk Alley and web media outlet VICE, Byman's music is rooted in her roots, becoming an Illinois fiddle champion at age 17. She is an advocate of a new generation of Americana, which is influenced by contemporary songwriters such as Courtney Barnett, while still having a strong sense of her own personality. She has also taken a distinctly political stance that resonates with folk musicians of the past, such as founding FOLK FIGHTS BACK, a musicians' organization that organizes benefit concerts in opposition to the Trump administration. The theme of this album is destruction and rebirth, inspired by the birth of her nephew and the death of her grandmother, and it is a quality album with a rich Americana sound and her raw songs.
