ENIGMATICSOUNDMACHINES is a Montreal-based art-rock project formed by two multi-instrumentalists: Thomas Szirmay (vocals/sound machines), who is primarily active online as a progressive rock reviewer, and Jeremie Arrobas (vocals/synth)—two multi-instrumentalists—have formed the Montreal-based art-rock project ENIGMATIC SOUND MACHINES. Their fourth album, released in '26, is now available via Progrock.com’s Essentials label! From their debut album, which strongly evokes the 80s synth-pop and new wave roots of Jeremie, to their second album, which stood out for its post-punk/industrial-style, inorganic soundscapes, and their third album—which took a major turn toward the spacey, melancholic progressive/melodic rock reminiscent of PINK FLOYD, Peter Gabriel, and even Steven Wilson’s recent works—marking a significant shift toward a spacey, melancholic progressive/melodic rock sound. They have radically reinvented their musical style with each release. Released just 10 months after their previous album, this new work continues the psychedelic/ space-rock-tinged melodic rock direction of their previous album. Additionally, two new permanent members—Alain Bellaiche (g) of HELDON, who had appeared as a guest on the previous album, and Hansford Rowe (b), known for his work with PIERRE MOERLEN’S GONG and GONGZILLA—joined the recording session, Their seasoned, understated performances—the kind only veterans can deliver—add even greater depth and richness to the dystopian worldview presented by Jeremie, making this a must-have for melodic rock fans and a true evolution of their previous work. The album also concludes with a cover of “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” by Tube Way Army, led by Gary Numan, one of the most influential figures in the British new wave and electro scenes!
