[51:59] This is the debut disc by Los Salvosa, a young pianist from the Philippines. The first three composers on this album, Molina, Tapales, and San Pedro, are all Filipino composers who were born in the first half of the 20th century, and are of great interest for understanding the style of Filipino modern and contemporary composers. All three composers were influenced by Debussy and other modern French composers, while using Philippine folk songs as their source material. This album is worth listening to just for the lovely and colorful works of these three composers, but what is even more astonishing is the piano skills of pianist Los Salvosas. His performance of Chopin's Exercises is nothing short of brilliant, a masterpiece of astonishing technique and musicality. Salvosa has won prizes at the Seattle International Piano Competition and the Steinway Canada Young Artist Competition, and his future performance is highly anticipated. The three piano pieces from "Firebird" included at the end of the program are superb in both arrangement and performance. (Tobu Shoji)
