New York's St. Thomas Choir Celebrates the 400th Anniversary of William Byrd's Death! The second Signum release from the New York Fifth Avenue St. Thomas Male Chorus & Boys Choir, a major group in the American Anglican choral tradition, commemorates the 400th anniversary of William Byrd's death. Centered around the masterpiece "Mass in Four Voices," this program incorporates Latin motets, chants, prayers, and biblical readings to recreate the Eucharistic Catholic Mass that Byrd would have experienced in the late 16th century. The second half of the program, The Great Service (a work written in English for the liturgy of the Church of England), is a reissue (first time on CD) from an LP recorded in 1981 by former choir director and organist Jere Hancock (1934-2012).
