Founded in 1982 by master musician Paul MacLeish, Gabrieli Consort & Players is one of the UK's leading ancient music ensembles and choirs.In 2019, MacLeish will begin a project to record one of his specialty repertoire, Henry Purcell, and the first release, "King Arthur (SIGCD 589)" (SIGCD 589), which was selected as "Special Recording of the Month" by Record Art International REVIEW, Recording of the Month by Gramophone magazine, and a finalist in the Opera category of the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2020. The second recording of this highly anticipated series is Purcell's semi-opera "The Fairy Queen," based on Shakespeare's "A Summer Night's Dream. Purcell's most colorful and enchanting score, with exciting instrumentation and beautiful singing, is recorded in a "new performing edition" by MacLeish and the Gabrieli Consort, with the same stellar cast of singers as the previous recording, except for the addition of Charles Daniels, and with the same "new" score developed over a quarter-century of performance experience.
