Thierry Fischer's Petrushka! The Swiss maestro Thierry Fischer is rapidly gaining recognition as the permanent conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra since 2008. The second installment of the "Diaghilev and the Russian Ballet" series, promoted by Thierry Fischer with BBC NOW, features Stravinsky's "Petrushka," following his previous work "The Firebird" (SIGCD 165)! The skillful use of wind and percussion instruments and the vivid sound of the orchestra, which is based on his experience as a former flutist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, are impressive. The vivid colors, dizzying scene changes, and sharp rhythms of "Petrushka" were well expressed in this fine performance. Tokyo M-Plus
