Mikhail Zemtsov & Friends

Description:

The master musician Mikhail Zemtsov! The first complete collection of Brahms' works! This is the first volume of the complete Brahms viola works by internationally acclaimed viola player Mikhail Zemtsov, who is widely active as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, and conductor. Zemtsov studied viola and composition at the conservatories of Moscow, London, Hamburg, and Maastricht, where he studied with such renowned teachers as Galina Odinetz, Boris Dinerstein, and Mikhail Kugel. As a chamber musician, he has performed with world-class artists such as Sarah Chang, Mischa Maisky, Janine Jansen, and Boris Berezovsky, and has appeared at numerous international music festivals in Europe, Asia, and America. He is a member of the Utrecht String Quartet, Duo Macondo, and the Zemtsov Viola Quartet, formed by the Zemtsov family: his wife Julia, brother Alexander, and daughter Dana, all professional viola players. The quartet has released numerous recordings, and their solid musicianship and passionate performances have captivated many audiences. This album couples the "Horn Trio" and the "Clarinet Sonata, Op.120," which Brahms created in his later years after an encounter with clarinetist Richard Mühlfeldt, and which is regarded as one of his most profound, beautiful, and moving works. It is believed that Brahms prepared viola versions of these works because he felt that the rich expressive power of the viola would allow him to rediscover these works from a completely new perspective, and there is a special affinity between Brahms' musical world and the sound of the viola. In addition to Zemtsov, the outstanding soloists, pianist Hanna Sibayeva and violinist Daniel Roland, bring their Russian passion and drive to this performance, and the audience will find the charm of Brahms's masterpieces in a magnificent way.
