Description:

The Danish guitarist, known for his sensitive sound, performed with a multi-generational group of unique improvisers in this rare session from 10 years ago. Although this is a new album, it was recorded in New York City ten years ago and is a snapshot of Jacob Bro's music at a turning point. In the chronological discography of Bro's sessions, it comes a few months after the Danish guitarist's leader debut, Gefion, released on ECM. Atmospherically and conceptually, it is an extended and rounded version of his early work with saxophonist Lee Konitz. In addition to Konitz, the participating members include Bill Frisell, one of the leading guitarists in contemporary jazz, talented pianist Jason Moran, longtime collaborator Thomas Morgan (double-b), and veteran drummer Andrew Cyril (ds), among others of note.An important figure in jazz history since The Birth of Cool, Konitz joined Jacob Bro's musical career in 2008 at the recommendation of Paul Motian, and participated in the trilogy of albums Balladeering, Time, and December Song, all released on Bro's own label. He participated in the trilogy, "Balladeering", "Time", and "December Song". The collaboration changed his priorities, Jacob says. When Lee started playing my pieces, I felt I had found a direction that suited me," he says. This may seem obvious considering Konitz's greatness as an improviser, but for me it was a revelation. From day one, Lee interpreted my music quite freely, playing around melodies, hinting, not necessarily playing them as written. And it made me think in a new way about how much music to bring in and how much direction to give in order for the group sound to find its natural balance and flow. I've been searching for that ever since." What do world-renowned jazz players at the top of contemporary jazz think and feel? This music documentary follows the band over a period of 14 years, capturing their precious recording sessions and daily life, and capturing the moment when jazz was born. Personnel〉 Jakob Bro(g), Lee Konitz(as,ss), Bill Frisell(g), Jason Moran(p), Thomas Morgan(double-b), Andrew Cyrille(ds)
