Description:
Hailing from Ecuador, Ellard Negro creates his own unique psychedelic pop with roots in local Spanish-speaking music, and has released his latest EP on the Ninja Tune-affiliated Big Dada label! Helado Negro, a producer/singer/songwriter with parents from Ecuador, South America, creates unique psychedelic pop music with its roots in Spanish-speaking countries. After working with Scott Herren aka Prefuse 73 as Savas & Savalas and beatmaker name Epstein, and collaborating with Sufian Stevens, Devendra Banhart, and Juliana Barwick, he released his album "This Is How You Smile, earned international acclaim, and Ellard has continued to create atmospheric and experimental pop music. His latest work was inspired by the question, "What is the last sound you will hear before you die?" The EP unfolds as a series of songs imbued with an ominous and sometimes frenetic energy. This sense of unease is amplified by Lange's heavy use of electronics, echoes, and distortion, giving his words a stunned, shocked quality. It emphasizes the intense feelings of fear and uncertainty that the planet holds in its peril and reflects deep contemplation. The lead single and opener, "More," captures the crushing pressure and loneliness felt in a hyperconnected world. We are more connected than ever, yet we feel more alone than ever. It's a song about the daily struggle that leads to an overwhelming state of "too much of everything," Lange says. In "The Last Sound On Earth," Lange also examines systemic power structures. Sender Receiver" looks at the violence and imbalance built into technical terms, while "Protector" builds on the classic jungle break to cast a cynical eye on the broken notion that those in power are really acting for our benefit and protection. The film casts a cynical eye on the broken notion that those in power are really acting for our benefit and protection. While dealing with heavy themes, the music itself is in up-tempo territory, with closing tracks "Zenith" (the opposite of abyss, the equilibrium between something and nothing) and "Don't Give It Up Now" (a song about stepping back and fighting for change), in which Lange's emotions are positively and positively Lange attempts to translate his emotions into something positive and forward-looking. Constantly filled with complex layers of emotion, "The Last Sound On Earth" is the sound of an artist facing a changing world and searching for a way to move beyond it. And he ultimately finds answers to his own questions. What is "the last sound on earth"? The last sound is love...and that is what I want to hear."
