Description:
Born in Lodz, Poland, to a wealthy Jewish cultural family, Tansman spoke five languages and studied law and philosophy. His early works show his experimentation with atonal music and twelve-tone technique; in 1919, he emigrated from Poland to Paris, where he lived permanently. Tansman used folk songs as material to be transformed by the imagination. It can be said that he took the same approach to composition as Chopin. It is also worth mentioning that he made the same use of various traditional music he encountered in his travels around the world, such as jazz, gamelan, and Japanese music. The music is a joyful, lively and musical portrayal of places around the world. The performer, Maria Argentiero, has studied with Alexander Ronkvig, Gabriele Baldocci, Monaldo Braconi, Riccardo Rizzariti, Franco Malburi, Roberto Prosseda, and in chamber music with Bruno Canino. The booklet includes an interview by Argentiero with Marianne Tansman, the composer's daughter.
