Part 1 of the Clavier cycle contains six suites called partitas, which are preceded by stylized dances and accompanied by various preludes, sinfonias, fantasias, overtures, and toccatas, all of which are different forms and types of late Baroque keyboard music. This first part of the Clavier Exercises (BWV.825-BWV.830) was the first work that Bach notated and published himself between 1726 and 1741, and the partitas are of special significance because of the addition of a section that seems to be in the Gallant style. The performance is by Wolfgang Lübsam, internationally known as a Bach performer. This new recording is performed on the lute harpsichord, which Bach would have had for home musical activities and teaching. It is a lovely performance that expresses the sensitive and poetic side of Lüpsum.
