SOYUZ, a Belarusian band that gained international attention with their last album "Force of The Wind" (2022), which was heavily influenced by Brazilian music, is releasing their first new album in 3 years from "Mr. Bongo"! The title of the album, "KROK" means "one step" in Belarusian. The word has a great meaning for them, as they moved to Warsaw against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and unstable political situation in Belarus.
Songwriter/arranger Alex Chumak (Alex Chumak) had previously spelled the lyrics in Russian, the common language of the former Soviet Union countries, but for this album he decided to write in Belarusian, their native language. Despite the difficulties of drummer Anton Nemahai's departure, the recording was done in a studio in São Paulo with the participation of many Brazilian musicians, including Biel Basili and Marcelo Cabral, who play drums in the São Paulo bands Sessa and O Terno.
Starting with the fast and furious title track, "Lingua Do Mundo," which features Chin Bernardes on vocals, the preceding single "Kali ty zapytaješ," which was recorded at Sven Wonder's studio with a beautiful rose piano sound, and "Smak žyćcia," in which Mami Kakudo participates in poetry reading, are all of the highest quality. The quality of each song is of the highest quality, including "Smak žyćcia" in which Mami Kakudo participated in poetry reading.
Although recorded mainly in Brazil, the foundation of this album is based on Eastern European roots. The album is a mixture of Brazilian music, jazz, folk, library music, and many other elements. The diverse references, meticulous sound design, and deepened composition/arrangement all contributed to the album's success. In a situation where even recording was difficult, Soyuz turned a difficult situation into an opportunity and produced a masterpiece that should be called his best work.
