Horse Meat Disco (HMD) is a resident event that started in London in 2003. They have contributed greatly to queer culture and club culture as a whole, and now they are releasing a Brazilian disco boogie compilation! One of the members of HMD, Luke Howard, is a Brazilian music lover who has been visiting Brazil every year since HMD was founded. I've always wanted to go to Brazil since I was a kid," Howard said. I have visited Rio every year since 2003, and in that time I have learned Portuguese and tried to learn as much as I could about Brazilian music and popular culture. I studied samba at the Paraiso School of Samba in London and have paraded in the Rio Carnival three times. Brazilian music was an adventurous and exciting whole new world for me. It is a whole new world of genius musicians, singers, and styles. Nine years later, Mr. Bongo invited Luke to join the label and began to develop the idea for this album.However, the licensing process was extremely difficult and did not come to fruition for many years. However, with the support of Tee Cardaci, a well-known collector active in Rio, this work, which has been in the works for over a decade, will finally be released in 2025. The album includes the electro-boogie "Venha (Remix)" by Ze Carlos, "Sorriso Vermelho," a selection of Luiza Maura's popular singles released on Copacabana, "Deixa Girar" by Bedeu, "Ela Girar" by Jorge Ben Ela Tem Raça, Charme, Talento E Gostosura" by Gretchen, and even Marcos Valli's recent work, all of which are full of pleasant, killer tunes that only those who have been following Brazilian disco-boogie for over 20 years could have come up with! Many Brazilian disco~funk compilations have been released in the past, but this one is sure to become a new standard!
