The "Jesus Movement" originated from Christian ideas in the hippie era, or hippie elements in Christianity. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, the movement spread from the West Coast to the rest of the U.S. and even to Europe. The best of British Christian rock, OUT OF DARKNESS and its predecessors, garage R&B act THE PILGRIMS, PARCHMENT, WHISPERS OF TRUTH, and JUDYMACKENZIE, are all included. In parallel, the album features songs with a strong spiritual message by secular bands such as STRAWBS, MOODY BLUES, and KINKS. The restless quest and fear of the Vietnam War of the Woodstock generation added a spiritual element to pop culture, and the influence of the latter on contemporary Christian music (CCM) is immeasurable. This collection is full of historically important and valuable Christian Rock/Folk recordings from the 60's!
