Welcome to My Garden. Her first self-produced album, infused with a 70s soul and Brazilian vibe. A new album from bassist and vocalist Kana Ishikawa, who exudes a one-of-a-kind presence in the jazz scene with her supple bass playing and crystal-clear vocals. Her talent was discovered by world-renowned pianist Makoto Ozone, and she made her debut in March 2023 with the mini-album *Kurena*. This new release—her first self-produced project in three years—features eight tracks centered on songs she has long performed live. She recorded the album with trusted musicians she has frequently performed with live, including Takeshi Obayashi, Taka Nawashiro, Gene Jackson, and Kan. As evidenced by the cover selections—including Minnie Riperton’s “Les Fleurs” and Roy Ayers’ “Searching”—the album is rooted in jazz but features a bright, open sound that draws more heavily on the essence of ’70s soul, soul jazz, and Brazilian music than her previous work. The album title “Garden” evokes the image of an inner space—an inner garden—where the seeds planted within her by the people she has encountered and the experiences she has had throughout her life, as well as those who have passed on, gradually blossom over time—a place where this inner space intersects with the changes of the outside world.
