Jordan Rakai is a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter/producer and one of the leading figures of the contemporary UK scene. He has released four albums and has performed with Common, Tom Misch, Lizzy McAlpine, and FKJ, and his talent has been praised by Sam Smith and Giles Peterson. Since 2015, he has moved his base of activities from Australia to London, where he has gained a large following for his unique blend of soul, jazz, electro, and other genres. His new album "The Loop" is based on the concept of "hope" throughout, and reflects the changes in his personal life. Produced by himself, the album was recorded at RAK Studios in London, away from home recording. He was also influenced by a documentary about his hero, Bill Withers.The songwriting, the superb arrangements with strings, and his beautiful, melancholy vocals are all aspects of his charm. About this album, Jordan says, "I wanted to go back to why I fell in love with music in the first place. I realized that I was listening back to the music of my favorite musicians, and I wanted to make a record with my vocals in the center. The title of the album refers to the cycle of life: being a child, having children, and recognizing your inner child. We live in a never-ending cycle of life, and I wanted to explore that vulnerability in my lyrics. As this album is the most personal of the band's work to date, it will be very interesting to see what the future holds.
