Description:

The duo formed as if cast from a single mold, creating an unconventional super orchestra with an all-Rachmaninoff program.... Fireworks of color" - Daniil Trifonov, one of the best young pianists and composers of der Standard (Vienna), released his first piano duet album with his teacher Sergey Babayan. It features two piano versions of Rachmaninoff's two suites and symphonic dances for two pianos, as well as the two-piano version of "Third Movement: Adagio" from Symphony No. 2, which Trifonov himself arranged. Recorded as part of the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff's birth in 2023, the album is a tribute to one of the world's most beloved pianist-composers. Trifonov graduated from the Gnesin College of Music in 2009 and studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Sergey Babayan. In 2010, she won the third prize at the 16th International Chopin Piano Competition, and the following year she won the first prize at the 13th Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and the first prize and Grand Prix at the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition, establishing herself as a top-class pianist. In February 2013, he signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon, the world's oldest and most prestigious classical label, and is active internationally not only as a pianist but also as a composer. Trifonov credits Babayan's education as having influenced him to further his piano interpretations. An Armenian-born pianist, Babayan studied with Georgi Saradjev and then at the Moscow Conservatory with Mikhail Pletnyov, Vera Gornostaeva, and Lev Naumov. He has won first prizes at the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and has since been invited to perform as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony Orchestra, and others. He has been invited as a soloist by the London Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, New World Symphony, and others. Universal Music
