Art Pepper (born September 1, 1925 - died June 15, 1982) was a renowned alto saxophonist on the West Coast of the United States. This album is a recording of his third concert in Japan in July 1979 at the Tokyo Postal Savings Hall, and was originally released as two live recordings in 1979 and 1981 under the titles "Landscape" (6 songs) and "Besame Mucho" (5 songs), respectively. Discs 3 & 4 are the complete recordings of the first and second sets from the 23rd, for a total of 22 tracks, and were released as a 4-CD set in 2007 (Japan-produced version). The band consists of George Cables on piano, Tony Dumas on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums.This is a moving two-day documentary that brings back to life, with the atmosphere of that time, the masterful performances that captivated audiences three years before the legend's death, who first visited Japan in 1977 and was immensely popular in Japan.
