Johannes Obermeyer, the winner of the prize, was a versatile musician with special talents from an early age: he began piano lessons at the age of five, took up the saxophone at eight, and three years later began learning the trumpet. With a piano tone as "brilliant" as the album's title, Obermeyer's debut album features Schumann's "Carnival," his own variations, Chopin's exercises, and Godowsky's famously difficult "53 Exercises on Chopin's Etudes.
