Description:
The "Rossini in Wirtbart" festival, held every summer in honor of Rossini's stay in Wirtbart in his later years, presents "Armida" with six tenors in this live performance from 2022. The story of the witch Armida and the crusader hero Rinaldo in Tasso's epic poem "The Liberation of Jerusalem" has been used by many composers since the Baroque era, including Rossini. Rossini composed this opera in 1817, and it was premiered at the reopening of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, which had burned down the previous year. The title role, created by Isabella Colbran, Rossini's lover and later his wife, has some difficult coloratura songs such as "D'amore al dolce impero" (In the empire of sweet love), and it is also known as a difficult work to perform because it requires six tenors to sing the role. The performance was of such a high standard that it was described as "like magic casting." The coloratura of Ruto Iniesta as the title role and the brilliant high notes of Michele Angelini as Rinaldo were also highly acclaimed.José-Miguel Pérez-Sierra is a conductor who studied under Gianluigi Gelmetti and was assistant to Alberto Zedda, and his recordings of Rossini operas for the NAXOS label have received high praise.
