Description:
This album of organ concertos by modern and contemporary American composers features a duo of Grammy Award-winning artists. Horatio Parker, who opens the album, was the teacher of Charles Ives, a composer who studied in Munich under Josef Reinberger. His style is in the German tradition, and this organ concerto has a profound atmosphere reminiscent of Mendelssohn and Brahms. Orkin's "Resilience," which follows, is spectacular music that would be suitable for a space fantasy film. Lauz's Organ Concerto, which favors the concerto format, is dedicated to Paul Jacobs and is written in the classic rapid-flex-rapid movement form. The last piece in the collection is a solo organ work by Ives. The title of the piece is "American Variations," but the theme is the British national anthem "God Save the King.
