In 2016, after the great success of his opera "The Shining" (based on the Stephen King novel) written for the Minnesota Opera, Moravec again set out to compose a large-scale vocal work. The script was also written by Mark Campbell. The theme of the work, "An American Historical Oratorio," is taken from the long-standing records of William Still, the "Father of the Underground Railroad," who at one time helped as many as 60 slaves a month escape from the system. The music adds an even more epic dimension to the thrilling story of how he helped 60 slaves escape from slavery in one month.
