In 1830, at the age of 20, Schumann (1810-1856) became a pupil of the renowned piano teacher Friedrich Wieck. Shortly thereafter, he published his "Abegg Variations" (Op. No. 1), and although he later gave up his dream of becoming a pianist due to a hand injury, he composed a series of wonderful piano pieces. Yes, that was the year 1840, known as the "Year of Song. More than 100 songs were written in 1840, including many of the major songs, all of which are true masterpieces, and all of which boast a high level of artistic perfection. The Leader Kleis Op.39 is one of the most popular and is known as one of the most romantic of his works. The "Spring Night" gently placed at the end is especially charming. Many people will be captivated by this one song alone.The other two are the familiar "Six Songs," the simple "Three Poems," and the long narrative tale "The Lion's Bride," a beautiful collection of songs overflowing with Schumann's dreamy personality.
