The seventh disc features the masterful Shcherbakov, who answers the intriguing question of what happens when a virtuoso pianist performs Scarlatti. Domenico Scarlatti (1685–1757), son of Alessandro Scarlatti—the founder of the Neapolitan opera school—is particularly famous for his collection of keyboard sonatas, a collection of masterpieces comprising no fewer than 555 surviving works. Composed for performance on a variety of keyboard instruments at the Spanish court, where Scarlatti served for many years, these works are astonishingly inventive and captivating, full of wit, highly effective technical fast sections, alternating with deeply moving and evocative lyrical passages. ・D.
