French National Orchestra

Description:

Orchestre National de France Performed by Kubelík, Schuricht, Stokowski, and othersRecordings from the 1950s by the Orchestre National de France, featuring the famous conductors Kubelík, Schuricht, and Stokowski. Performances are by the splendid conductors Kubelík, Schuricht, and Stokowski, all of whom are from outside France. Eugenia Zaleska (1910-1979), a singer born in the Polish-Ukrainian region, won a competition in Vienna in 1938 and began performing in 1939. In 1952, he moved to London, and since then, he has been based in England. In this recording, Stokowski's expression and powerful voice are impressive as the music progresses. Stokowski's conducting debut was in Paris in 1909, but there are not many recordings of him with French orchestras, which makes this recording very valuable. Kubelík's recordings with French orchestras are also very rare. The Orchestre National de Radio France was created on February 18, 1934, then when the ORTF was created in 1964, its name became the ORTF National Orchestra, and finally in 1974 it was renamed the Orchestre National de France. The recording itself was made in 1958, so it was called Orchestre National de Radio France, but it is now considered the Orchestre National de France, including at the time of its release, so the jacket is titled as such as well. The jacket photo is of Desiree-Emile Engelbrecht conducting the orchestra, and although it has nothing to do with the recorded music, it is believed to be used because Engelbrecht conducted the orchestra's first concert on March 13, 1934.
