Perianes, who has been making efforts to introduce Spanish piano music such as Falla and Mompou, takes on the challenge of Granados' "Goyescas. The suite "Goyescas," consisting of six pieces, was composed in 1911. It is considered the pinnacle of Spanish piano music, along with Albéniz's "Iberia," and is a descriptive and agitated piece of music expressed in a unique folk idiom and with the highest degree of virtuosity. Granados is said to have been attached to the purely Spanish period and culture of the late 18th century. Goyescas" exquisitely depicts the world of Goya's paintings from that era, the passionate love and sweetness of Latin love with a hint of death in the air. Perianes, a Spaniard, was well versed in Goya's world, and while the atmosphere of the painting is naturalistic, it depicts a world of purity and nobility without emphasizing the artist's distress. The "Straw Dolls," which was made later in the production, is also well recorded, and is performed with great vitality and energy. King International
