Ethiopiques is one of the most popular series of compilation discs from BUDA MUSIQUE in France, and is well-known to world music fans. Previously distributed by Alterpop, the series has been reissued by Rice Records in order to reaffirm its importance and, by extension, the appeal of Ethiopian music, which is now difficult to find in the domestic market. The ninth release in this series is "Negus of Ethiopian Sax," a masterpiece by Getachew Mekriya, a saxophonist with a cult following among Ethiopian musicians. (C)RS
