Valentin Tournay, one of the most promising conductors of the 21st century, has already attracted a great deal of attention in the French classical music scene and opera world, especially at the Royal Opera House of the Palace of Versailles. This time, we have the complete recording of a masterpiece that shone brilliantly in the interregnum of the history of French opera. The "Festivals of Greece and Rome" was premiered in 1723, at the end of the regnal reign of the Duke of Orleans (1715-1723), after the death of the Sun King Louis XIV, and at the beginning of the reign of the young Louis XV, and its music, which incorporates a large Italianate element in the pure French style, was well received by the public at the time when Paris was abuzz. It was a popular work that was repeated without a moment's pause. Even after the appearance of Rameau, who would go on to dominate the opera world, it was performed frequently and remained a staple of the repertoire with occasional tweaks, such as adding a song sung by the popular singer Geriot.
