Description:
Kazuki Yamada's accomplishment! World premiere recording of Saint-Saens' last opera "Déjeunerre"] In 1898, "Déjeunerre" was first performed in the open-air stadium in Béziers as incidental music for a tragedy by Louis Galle, and Saint-Saens planned to develop it musically and reconstruct it as a opera. After Galle's death in the same year that the play was premiered, Saint-Saëns himself worked on the libretto, and in 1911, the opera "Dejanir" was premiered in Monte Carlo. The story is based on the end of Heracles in Greek mythology, and is set in the ancient Greek city of Trachis. Hercule (Hercules) conquered Oecharia, a town in the region of Trachis, and attempted to take the king's daughter Iole (Iole) for his own, but his wife Dejanir (Dayianeira) vehemently rejected him, and his friend Philoctetes (Piroctetes) betrayed him and took Iole from him. Dejanir devises a plan to put Hercule in a jacket with the blood of Nesh (Nessos), a centaur killed by Hercule, believing that the magical power of the jacket will change his mind....This work, Saint-Saens' last opera, was written with a large orchestra of three winds, including a cor anglais, bass clarinet, soprano saxophone, contrabassoon, bass trumpet, two harps, and a brass band in the backstage area, The spectacular sound and beautiful melodic lines are typical of Saint-Saëns, and the spirited music that accompanies the heated exchanges is reminiscent of Wagner's. It is a wonder that this work has been so little neglected until now. In Monte Carlo, where the premiere took place, Kazuki Yamada showed off his natural ability to lead, giving a wonderful performance that brought out the charm of the work to the fullest extent. The original booklet is 145 pages (French and English) and is richly illustrated with photographs. The domestic edition comes with a commentary by opera researcher Junshin Kishi and a valuable translation of the complete lyrics by Kenji Yamashita. Japanese commentary by Junshin Kishi and Japanese translation of the lyrics by Kenji Yamashita, Naxos Japan.
