World premiere recording of Saint-Saens' last opera "Déjeunerre"] In 1898, "Déjeunerre" was first performed in the open-air stadium in Béziers as incidental music for a tragedy by Louis Galle, and Saint-Saens planned to develop it musically and reconstruct it as a opera. After Galle's death in the same year that the play was premiered, Saint-Saëns himself worked on the libretto, and in 1911, the opera "Dejanir" was premiered in Monte Carlo. The story is based on the end of Heracles in Greek mythology, and is set in the ancient Greek city of Trachis. Hercule (Hercules) conquered Oecharia, a town in the region of Trachis, and attempted to take the king's daughter Iole (Iole) for his own, but his wife Dejanir (Dayianeira) vehemently rejected him, and his friend Philoctetes (Piroctetes) betrayed him and took Iole from him.
