A Day at the Court of the Sun King, performed by a new generation of British ensembles In 2021, Ensemble Molière, selected as the illustrious first organization of the New Generation Baroque Ensemble, jointly recommended by BBC Radio 3 and the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, traces the masterpieces of Louis XIV's favorite composers in a trio sonata composition. This album is a collection of works by Louis XIV's favorite composers in trio sonatas. The program is composed of overtures, chamber music, background music for supper, music for the court theater, and music for bedtime, as if to trace a day in the life of the king, who had his musical forces stationed throughout Versailles and was immersed in music from morning to night. The program includes not only Lully, the composer most beloved by Louis XIV, but also Charpentier, who continued to compose music for the royal family after his death; Couperin, who was also the royal keyboard teacher; de Lalande, Lully's successor in the royal household; and the king himself, who performed the allegory of the sun when the centralization of power under Louis XIV became definitive.
