Description:

An amazing new discovery! André Campra, a composer who made a great leap forward in French opera after the death of Lully at the end of the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King. His popular works, such as his "Elegant Europe" (1697), which marked a major turning point in the history of Baroque opera, as well as his French cantatas (cantate) and petits motets, have been restored and recorded in many recordings in the wake of the rediscovery of old music. This is the world premiere recording of his important work "Fate of the New Century," premiered in May 1700, which had long been forgotten because the original manuscript score had remained untranscribed and buried until a few years ago. This allegorical musical drama was first performed in France in the last year of the 17th century, when the Habsburg royal family was about to be severed and war was on the horizon over the succession to the throne of the neighboring country, Spain. It is a very welcome revival of one of Campra's greatest masterpieces, which vividly accompanies the poetic lines of the music while also enjoying the free and flexible sound production of the dance numbers characteristic of French Baroque music, and has been interpreted by the most talented musicians of the French classical music world.La Tempesta, led by the brilliant French conductor Patrick Bismut, who is also known for his legendary recording of Bach's unaccompanied violin cycle, has expanded its ensemble to about 20 members and performs with flexibility and subtlety. The cast of singers, including Claire Lefriatre, a well-known medieval singer, and Matthias Vidal, a leading figure in the French opera world, also contributed to the realization of this masterful performance.
