Description:
The orchestra of Elector Philipp Theodor IV of Palatinate (1724-1799), who held court in Mannheim, was distinguished not only for its collection of the finest instrumentalists of the time, but also for their outstanding compositional talent. Members of the orchestra included Johann Stamitz, who served as court music director, and his son Karl, Georg Josef Vogler, and Christian Cannabich, who later became known as the "Mannheim School" and took the world by storm. Of course, some of the members, despite their outstanding talent, have been forgotten by name. Franz Anton Dimler, who appears on this album, is one such person. He was a horn player in Mannheim and later switched to double bass. He was highly acclaimed during his lifetime and was active in Munich, but today he is barely known to a few specialists for a few clarinet concertos. This album contains three clarinet concertos, recorded here for the first time. All of them feature cleverly written solo parts, and the clarinet shows off all its skills in the orchestral accompaniment, showing off the charm of the instrument to the fullest.The soloist for this concert is Nikolaus Friedrich, a native of Germany. He is the principal of the National Theater Orchestra of Mannheim, and is also a renowned musician who has devoted himself to the introduction of contemporary music. Naxos Japan
