Newly remastered and restored! Coupland is famous as one of the best clavecin (harpsichord) musicians of the French Baroque, but during his lifetime he was also active as a church organist and wrote a lot of church music, as well as a considerable number of ensemble pieces, love songs, and playful songs. In this album, we focus on the 8th Concerto, subtitled "Theatrical", which is part of the "Fusion of Interests", a collection of ensembles he published later in his life, in which he pursued an encounter between the Italian and French styles. The program is composed in the style of stage music in the style of opera/ballet by rearranging the movements freely and arranging "serious songs" (literary songs about serious romantic feelings) and "drinking songs" in between. The titles of the scenes (Divertissements) are based on 17th- and 18th-century literature and paintings, and the varied development of the music, which reflects the tone of various instruments such as violin, viola da gamba, clavecin, and wind instruments, highlights the diversity of Coupland's music. This is the long-awaited return of this classic album, which was in circulation for a short period of time, but has been remastered and is now available on Paradizo. Naxos Japan
