Description:
The magnificent oratorio "Moses" by the early German Romantic composer Bernhard Marx. As editor of the newspaper "Musik Gazette Berlin," he was known for his criticism of the music of the time and his friendship with Mendelssohn. When "Moses" was premiered in Breslau in 1841, it was controversial because of its "lack of religiosity," but Mendelssohn said he wanted to write a work that went beyond the conventional oratorio. The use of instruments is unique: the oboe represents the anguish of the Israelites, while the trombone gives dignity and weight to the words of Moses and Aaron. The trumpet also emphasizes Moses' praise to God. This dramatic work seems to anticipate Wagner's musical drama. Naxos Japan
