Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau left his mark on the history of German lieder, giving his first recital in Leipzig in 1947 and making his debut as a baritone at the Deutsche Oper Berlin the following year. He released a series of albums with Gerald Moore, who built a great reputation as an accompaniment pianist, Aribert Reimann, a renowned composer, and in his later years with the virtuoso Hartmut Herr. He also made numerous live and session recordings for the ORFEO label, and while the works on the previously released CDs C992205 and C9993204 show the breadth of Fischer-Dieskau's musical horizons, this third collection offers even more rare and unusual works. In this third collection, we can hear even more unusual works. Ravel's Ravel, sung by a famous German Lieder singer, Hindemith's Hindemith, and the solo cantatas of Lyman, with whom Fischer-Dieskau had a trusting relationship, are especially interesting to hear. Fischer-Dieskau sings only a part of the Foltner and Reuter album, but other great singers such as Stella Defexis are included, which is also valuable.The booklet includes a self-portrait by Fischer-Dieskau, which is being exhibited for the first time.
