Description:
Bruckner's "Symphony No. 2," the first draft of which was completed in 1872, like many of his symphonies, underwent numerous revisions and modifications during his lifetime. The first performance was scheduled for 1872, the year of its completion, but was canceled after some members of the orchestra deemed it "unplayable. The following year, Bruckner revised the work himself and gave the first performance, which was slightly revised when it was performed again in 1876, but the following year, on the advice of his friend Helbeck, the work was substantially revised. The following year, on the advice of his friend Helbeck, Bruckner made major revisions, and at the time of publication, the work was also revised in detail, and Bruckner's pupils added their own revisions. However, Bruckner's first manuscript is in the archives of St. Florian's Abbey, and William Callaghan, a researcher, has revised it and restored all the passages that were cut after the first performance. He also switched the order of the second and third movements, as in the first draft, which is said to have been modeled on Beethoven's Ninth, thus bringing the entire work closer to Bruckner's original conception. Remi Barrault also uses this caragan version, which has recently become very popular, to slowly depict Bruckner's first thoughts.Enjoy the superb performance in high sound quality. Naxos Japan
