Reinhard Kaiser was active in the German Baroque period and is known for his 100 or so operas. Although he was acclaimed as a master on par with Handel and Telemann, his works have been largely neglected since his death, and it is only in the 21st century that his works are beginning to be appreciated. Based in Hamburg, he composed not only operas but also "dramatic music" (instrumental music without singing), and this album explores Kaiser's music with these instrumental pieces, solo cantatas, and arias in key passages. Most of the pieces are performed from unpublished scores held by the State Library of Berlin, making this a valuable album for researchers. Naxos Japan
