A collection of piano works by blind Armenian composer Nikohajos Tigranian. The collection includes a collection of pieces based on folk dances of his native Armenia and an arrangement for piano of mugam, a traditional popular music from neighboring Azerbaijan that emphasizes improvisation. The original traditional music, which also has Islamic influences, gives the impression of simplicity, but in fact is full of rich harmonies and unique melodies. The piano pieces based on this music also reflect a unique melancholy and rhythm that is truly interesting. Pianist Mikael Ayrapetian was born in 1984 in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. He is also active as a composer, and is a specialist in discovering, contributing to the development, and promoting Armenian music. Naxos Japan
