Description:
Satoshi Shiotani: First orchestral mini-album featuring the orchestral piece "Elegy for Piano and Orchestra" written in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of his career!
Elegy for Piano and Orchestra" was composed for the 30th anniversary of his solo debut on July 29, 2023, with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kentaro Kawase. Composed for that occasion, the piece was later slightly revised and performed again by the Tokyo 21st Century Orchestra (conducted by Kakuji Yoneda) on May 25 of the following year, and this live recording is the result. Although I started composing this piece from scratch, I could not stop thinking about a piece I had written earlier in the early stages. The concept of the piece was how to create a symphonic expression with two pianos, but I couldn't get it out of my head, so I decided to rework it as an orchestral piece and made it into a four-movement piece. I decided to rework the piece as an orchestral piece, so I made it into a four-movement piece.
Unlike a concerto, where the pianist's technique is fully demonstrated, this piece is written in such a way that the piano is a member of the orchestra, and since the piano part is relatively simple, I dreamed that it could be widely performed by many people. If such a song will be loved for a long time, it will be my greatest pleasure as a composer.
Preciousness" is a piano + strings version of a song from the solo piano album "solo piano=solo salt. This song means "preciousness" or "preciousness," and in my own way, I expressed my love and appreciation for music. This performance was given at a concert with the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Tatsunori Numajiri) on October 17, 2021, at the Chigasaki Civic Cultural Hall. Performing with the maestro, who was also my senior at junior high school, was a very moving and unforgettable experience.
