The new solo ambient album by Emily A. Sprague has been gaining attention in the indie scene, winning a best new album award at Pitchfork and a best new album award at Florist, the band in which she is the frontman. Emily A. Sprague, frontman of the lo-fi folk/pop band Florist, has released a new album "Hill, Flower, Fog," which was released only on Bandcamp in March. Fog," which was released exclusively on Bandcamp in March, is now available in physical form with new tracks and new artwork. Emily's sound is all about connections, fostering far-reaching connections, or lifelines, from the everyday to the cosmos. The album pushes meditation on perception and sensation across six spectrums. Moon View" and "Star Gazing" are commitments to the universe as seen from the ground, while "Horizon" and "Mirror" represent abstract worlds related to the location of the self and its outward projection. The tracks "Woven" and "Rain" express a more textural and tactile impression, an elemental immersion into the completely imperfect patterns of the earth. Utilizing modular synths, each track is subtly varied, yet retains a sense of familiarity. The work begins with a restrained, mollusc-like signal groove, and our ears perceive signs of hope with blinding intensity. The sound ripples and unfolds like petals, mingling with flowing drones. The sound fades from sparkling tones like a comet to pastoral phrases like a music box, colored by smooth reverberations, creating a superb ambient that makes us forget about time.
