Bruckner’s Symphony No. 1 is, as you know, his signature piece—it’s almost mind-boggling to think how many different recordings of it exist—but here, he delivers a flawless orchestral drive, making full use of his trusted musicians. The performance is brimming with a thrilling energy that feels almost entirely improvised. The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s lustrous tone is also magnificent!
